I’m new here on this particular platform, but not new to trying to quit my alcohol habit. I mostly drank due to overwhelming anxiety, CPTSD, chronic illness, and a difficult, sometimes overwhelming home life. In the past few days, my anxiety has been worse, and the agitation and sleepless nights have been next level, but at least I’m doing it sober. Today was the first day that a craving hit, but I didn’t cave in and go to the liquor store. I’m in therapy for this now, so I’m really hoping sobriety sticks this time. Fingers and toes crossed. It can be so embarrassing to say out loud to another adult that I can’t seem to control the amount of poison that I consume in one sitting. Especially when you’re a grown adult yourself. However, I’m sure many of you here can relate. Alcohol is everywhere. Every restaurant, every supermarket, and in many TV shows and movies. Watching someone casually have one glass of wine or beer, then calling it a night has never been my personal strong suit. Once I start drinking, I can rarely stop before things get out of hand. That is my weakness. My kryptonite. And it’s only made my health worse. I’ve lost countless friendships due to my addiction over the years. They just didn’t want to deal with the person I was becoming. And I don’t blame them one bit. I’m ready to embrace better health and healthier coping mechanisms moving forward. I realize that I can’t go on living like this. It’s time for that rebellious teenager in me (who started drinking just to cope) to grow up and learn how to function like an adult sans the poison. I’ve made it 4 months sober before. One month earlier this year. 2 years in college. Several years as a new parent. I can do this. Baby steps and as they say, one day at a time” ☮️ 🐱 🩷 🛼 ✌️ 🌻
