Got 108 days sober and something big happened I’m honestly dumbfounded. I don’t even know how to process everything that happened because it feels like one minute everything was okay, and the next minute everything fell apart. After all the conversations we had, all the promises we made to hold each other accountable, all the times we reminded each other why we were here and what we were fighting for, I genuinely believed we were going to make it through this together. We weren’t just friends in this. We were each other’s accountability. We were iron sharpening iron. When one of us felt weak, the other one was supposed to remind them of their strength. When one of us started losing sight of why we came here, the other was supposed to help bring them back. That’s why this hurts so damn much. It wasn’t just that he relapsed. He also stole something from another friend, and honestly, that made everything hurt so much worse. It wasn’t only watching somebody I cared about throw away the progress they were making—it was watching trust get broken too. Someone who was supposed to be surrounded by people trying to help him ended up hurting somebody else in the process. And that’s hard for me to wrap my head around because I know the person I thought I knew, and I know the person we were trying to become. Seeing those two versions collide is heartbreaking. I’m not just disappointed that my friend relapsed. I’m grieving the person I thought was going to be standing beside me when we finally made it out of here. I pictured us finishing this, looking back at everything we went through, and being proud that we didn’t let our past destroy our future. I pictured us becoming better men, getting our lives together, making money, rebuilding the things we lost, and actually having something to show for all this pain. Now I’m sitting here watching all of that change in the blink of an eye. The story continues in another post
