Realizing that I had followed the exact same trajectory as my mother with a different substance really hit me hard. For her, it was prescribed opiates. For me, it’s cannabis my doctor recommended. I feel kinda stupid for falling into the exact same pattern when I swore as a kid I wouldn’t, but I’m also grateful I caught this in myself at 2 years deep instead of the 15 years it cost her. It’s hard to sit with that today.
