Tonight I went on a date and he invited me to go to the beach with him tomorrow, which would be like a 4 hour round trip. I initially said yes and then got home and realized I was absolutely dreading it lol. So I texted him and said it felt a little overwhelming for a second date and that I’d rather do something local instead. I was SO nervous to send that text. Like genuinely scared he was going to be annoyed or think I was difficult or lose interest. And he was completely fine with it. Not even a little mad. I know this probably sounds tiny, but for the recovering people pleaser in me it felt kind of huge. I changed my mind. I said what I actually wanted. I didn’t force myself to do something I didn’t want to do just because I had already said yes. And nothing bad happened. I think this is what learning boundaries actually looks like. Little moments where you choose yourself and slowly realize you’re allowed to.
