Right now, I think a lot of people struggling with nicotine addiction are avoiding feelings like stress, anxiety, loneliness, boredom, or pressure. Nicotine can become a quick escape because it gives temporary relief and creates a sense of calm, even if it only lasts a short time. Sometimes people also use it to avoid difficult emotions they do not fully want to face, like disappointment, insecurity, sadness, or feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities and expectations. For me, the question is important because it shifts the focus away from just the habit itself and toward the deeper reason behind it. Instead of only asking “How do I quit?” it also asks “What am I trying not to feel?” Understanding those emotions can help someone find healthier ways to cope, whether that is talking to someone, exercising, journaling, listening to music, or taking time to decompress in healthier ways.
