I need to forgive myself for the relationships I lost and the people I’ve hurt and some of the situations I put myself in when drinking. I think that’s something I’ve had to really face recently. I lost some great friends bc of my alcohol misuse. I chose a relationship with drinking over friendships. I have to accept that I’m the one to blame. Although I miss those friendships, I need to learn to accept that yes, I messed up. And yes, they are over. And yes, I can change and regret my actions but that won’t guarantee I’ll get them back. And finally yes, I can forgive myself and keep working on getting better because that is life. Part of my journey with getting sober is the part where I start being completely honest with myself and start taking accountability for my actions. I am 100% responsible for the choices I make and I am 100% accountable for the consequences those choices may bring— whether good or bad (but hopefully more good than bad!). I’m not saying I have fully been able to forgive myself either... there are so many regrets and things I wish I could take back but I can’t. That’s my harsh reality. But I’m working really hard to be better and that has to count for something 🥺
