Maybe not small, but the passing of time when I’m NOT counting the minutes. 44 days ago I was calling out of work because I had just suffered a knee injury. The injury had nothing to do with drinking, but it definitely lined up with some reckless behavior and overindulging. The first few weeks felt like running through traffic on the highway. During rush hour. In Southern California. Constant crisis. Everything full volume. Just counting the minutes waiting to feel normal. Then I got surgery. So I was forced to slow all the way down. And I guess I’ve just been focused on that recovery. All of a sudden it’s been 44 days. I’ve barely thought about drinking. All of my friends have come through in their own special way. My partner is an absolute rockstar of a caretaker. I’m finally in a place where I can hear and listen to my body. It’s WILD and wonderful. I didn’t know I’d get to a point where alcohol and sobriety weren’t always on the front burner. I’m so grateful to be here. Grateful to all of you for providing a safe space for these thoughts. Cheers.
